Match Report - Doncaster Rovers Belles v Everton Ladies

Another Thursday night trip up the A1 to the Keepmoat Stadium to watch Doncaster Rovers Belles, this time in league action in FAWSL 2 their opponents Everton Ladies.

This match was oh so close to being the one were Doncaster Rovers Belles secured promotion back to the top tier of women's football, were so close to taking the 3 points away to 2nd placed Reading FC Women on Saturday only for the home side to score an equalising goal in injury time the match ending 2-2 and the gap between the two remaining 2 points.

Both Doncaster Rovers Belles and Reading FC Women remain on course for promotion with two sides going up, have a healthy gap between themselves and 3rd place Yeovil Town Ladies with both having 4 games left to play. Are into the final straight almost over the line, now more than ever focus and determination are required to ensure they get themselves over the line.

Top of the table on 35 points the goal for Doncaster Rovers Belles has been #OperationPromotion this season to that end they can take a huge stride to that tonight by securing 3 more points against Everton Ladies. At this stage of the season their are still 4 sides in contention to claim one of the two promotion place at the top of FAWSL 2. The table below shows the 4 contenders, Doncaster Rovers Belles are in pole position, Reading FC Women aside it's 3rd and 4th that can still cost them a place in FAWSL 1.

Top of the Table FAWSL 2
Pos Team Pl W D L F A GD Pts
1 Doncaster Rovers Belles 14 11 2 1 45 11 34 35
2 Reading FC Women 14 10 3 1 49 12 37 33
3 Yeovil Town Ladies 14 8 3 3 34 20 14 27
4 Everton Ladies 12 6 4 2 27 14 13 22

An unlikely scenario as it would take a huge collapse in form for either Yeovil Town Ladies or Everton Ladies to catch them. Everton Ladies are still in the promotion shake up because they have 6 matches left to play following postponements as the league resumed after it's mid season break. Have 22 points, with 18 to play for would need maximum points coupled with one of the top two dropping alot of points. They do though have a game left against all 3 of the sides above them and that means they get to have a huge say in how it will end.

Has been another season of transition following their relegation from the top tier of women's football after a 23 year stay. Lost a host of their top players once again and manager Andy Spence has stepped down from the managers role. Nicola Anderson has taken over until the end of the season, have always produced young talent and brought it through to the 1st team is a testament to the club that they had to postpone fixtures earlier in the season due to the fact they had so many away on international duty.

A big game for both sides under the lights at the Keepmoat Stadium, as the two sides walked out onto the pitch a rapidly cooling evening following a warm and pleasant day.

Doncaster Rovers Belles starting XI - Nicola Hobbs, Sophie Barker, Hope Knight, Rhiannon Roberts, Leandra Little (C), Kasia Lipka, Jade Lorton-Radburn, Emily Simpkins, Emily Roberts, Beth England & Courtney Sweetman-Kirk.
subs - Sam Tierney, Lyndsey Cunningham, Nicole Dale, Ashleigh Mills, Lauren Cresswell, Molly Johnson & Sophie Stamp

Everton Ladies starting XI - Kirsty Levell, Lyndsay Johnson, Paige Williams, Ellie Stewart, Gabrielle George, Michelle Hinnigan (C), Kelly Jones, Lauren Davies, Danielle Turner, Chantelle Boye-Hlorkah & Simone Magill.
subs - Megan Walsh, Vicky Jones, Jess King, Emily Hollinshead, Danielle Lea & Claudia Walker.

One change for Doncaster from the side that started against Reading FC Women on Saturday with Emily Roberts coming in for Sue Smith who isn't even named amongst the subs, is there but track suited up not taking part in the warm up. Everton to kick off the 1st half attacking left to right wearing Blue shirts and socks with white shorts against Doncaster wearing yellow shirts and socks with blue shorts.

Doncaster win the ball from the start, England is playing up top the furthest forwards as she did on Saturday is the target for Courtney Sweetman-Kirk as she has the ball on the right hand side looks to play England in, Everton centre back Gabrielle George comes across and shields the ball into her goalkeeper, Kirsty Levell's gloves.

With Sweetman-Kirk looking to play wide on the right and Emily Roberts providing the width on the left for Doncaster it is Emily Simpkins looking to push on through the middle to support England in attack. For Everton Simone Magill is the central attacker with support left from Danielle Turner and Chantelle Boye-Hlorkah out on the right.

A quiet opening exchange with both sides looking to make progress down the flanks get the ball into the area, the defences winning the ball back and setting up a counter attack. Hobbs launching a clearance up the left Sweetman-Kirk is almost in beyond the Everton but for a vital tackle from Lyndsay Johnson at full back, gets the ball up the pitch into captain Michelle Hinnigan who plays the diagonal ball out to Boye-Hlorkah in space wide on the right she looks to put the early ball into the box with Magill making up the ground, is too close to Hobbs allowing the Doncaster goalkeeper to get there first.

A good give and go between Lipka and England on the left inside their half allows Lipka to travel with the ball deep into Everton territory before spraying the pass out to the right into Sweetman-Kirk who takes it in her stride before pulling the trigger sends her effort wide across the area, goal kick.

Everton pile players forwards as Kelly Jones gets hold of the ball in the centre fires her pass into Magill in front of her back to goal she sweeps it out to the left for Danielle Turner as she spins off her defender looking to get into the area. Turner puts a good cross into the area central to goal it's Boye-Hlorkah who rises highest, gets a firm header on the ball however can't turn it towards goal sending the ball out behind. 15 minutes played.

Emily Roberts sends the ball into England who attempts to knock it beyond George and burst into the space behind, is body checked by George awarded a free kick. Just inside the Everton half Doncaster send players up as the ball is sent in towards the far post area to be attacked, captain Leandra Little wins the header knocking the ball down in towards the edge of the area, Sweetman-Kirk gets a toe to it as Everton try to clear shoots wide.

GOAL! Doncaster take the lead and it's by an unlikely scorer, but is nevertheless a beauty of a strike. Kasia Lipka gets her name on the score sheet. There aren't too many match reports I write covering Doncaster Rovers Belles where Lipka doesn't try her luck from distance tonight she finds the back of the net. Doncaster have possession of the ball down the right, Lipka has got forwards is supporting the attackers as the ball is fed into her 30 yards out, takes on the strike is a scorcher flies into the top left hand corner of the goal, nothing the diving Levell can do 1-0. 23 minutes played.

Kasia Lipka

Simpkins races down the right channel chasing a hopeful ball forwards does well to retrieve it, shifts it between her feet to cross, the ball is blocked rolls to Sophie Barker up with Simpkins she sends a waist high ball into the near post area, England is there on the six yard line, is falling back as she attempts to get her head on the ball can't get over it to get the power needed to beat Levell who dives to her left and saves.

Boye-Hlorkah is the player most likely to make something happen for Everton is looking to make herself available wide right take the ball down and drive to the by line to put the cross in. Hobbs is equal to it coming to claim the ball. A long pass out of midfield is nodded on by Boye-Hlorkah with Magill looking to chase it down can't reach it before Hobbs collects inside the box.

Doncaster's Courtney Sweetman-Kirk
GOAL! Doncaster double their lead on 33 minutes, the ball is played into Simpkins on the right side of the attack back to goal 30 yards out holds it up with Emily Roberts rushing towards her wanting the ball, receiving it looks to play it into England for her to turn and run at goal, goes over her but Sweetman-Kirk is alert coming in behind from the left, takes hld of the ball inside the box sees her initial close race shot saved by Levell, the rebound falls kindly to her as she drifts across goal taps it home to make it 2-0.

Jade Lorton-Radburn breaks up play in the middle of the park winning it of Kelly Jones looks to put England through for a run at goal, England takes it in her stride looking to shoot early 25 yards out right of the goal puts the shot straight into Levell.

Into the last 5 minutes of the half Everton press forwards the ball with Turner on the left she gets the cross in towards the near post Boye-Hlorkah has come over to meet it gets a touch with her head as Hobbs looks to punch it clear, beats the keeper, the ball is off target goes wide.

Half time Doncaster Rovers Belles 2-0 Everton Ladies

Doncaster with the 2 goal lead at half time have created the more chances in the 1st half have gotten in behind the Everton defence, whereas the visitors haven't been able to get in beyond the home sides defence as often their final ball only picking out a yellow shirt, has been an open game competitive in the middle of the park.

Doncaster get the 2nd half under way. Is an even start to the half with both sides looking to take it to the opponents defence. Doncaster have the 1st chance of the half as Sweetman-Kirk takes the ball down the left looks to sweep the diagonal ball into the area pick out England, gets the better of George before turning and hitting her shot over the cross bar.

Everton win the 1st corner of the match following another strong run from Boye-Hlorkah on the right, the ball is swept in towards the goal is cleared Doncaster have a break on as Emily Roberts looks to run clear is taken out by Paige Williams who earns herself a yellow card for her efforts. Possession is retained by Doncaster down the right win a throw the ball played into Simpkins inside the area she headers it out to the corner of the area for Barker who slices her attempted volley wide.

Doncaster's Jade Lorton-Radburn with Everton captain Michelle Hinnigan

Paige Williams is the 1st player substituted by Everton as they bring on Vicki Jones on 53 mins. Magill pushes forwards with the ball before laying it off to the right for Boye-Hlorkah, she cuts it back to the edge of the area where Hinnigan has arrived looks to hit the ball goal wards pulls the shot wide, must have touched a Doncaster player on the way through as a corner is given. The 1st corner from the right is cleared for a 2nd corner on the left another in swinger Hobbs has to punch it away as it threatened to creep in under the bar.

Everton are getting more players into advanced positions 2nd half are putting the pressure on Doncaster, Johnson gets forwards on the right in support of Boye-Hlorkah puts the ball into the middle, Magill the target, Hobbs is 1st to the cross again. England robs the ball from Vicki Jones at the back heads out to the right into space sends in the early cross Sweetman-Kirk has raced up with her leaps and heads the ball onto the cross bar, play is halted by the linesman's flag offside. Everton bring on Emily Hollinshead for Lauren Davies a move that sees Turner move out to the right with Boye-Hlorkah coming central to support Magill.

GOAL! Everton pull a goal back following a Doncaster attack the ball is won back and played out to Turner wide on the right is beyond her full back, Little needing to come across to slide in put the ball out for a corner. Is another got in swinging ball from Hinnigan flies over Hobbs coming to Boye-Hlorkah beyond for a simple nod down at close range to make it 2-1.

GOAL! No sooner had I written 'nervy finish' in my notes then Doncaster go up the other end and restore their 2 goal lead. As Everton press forwards Lipka wins the ball back manages to poke it into Lorton-Radburn who sends the ball forwards looking for Sweetman-Kirk to race onto, springs the offside trap, Ellie Stewart is after the attack as the pair race into the box is to the right Sweetman-Kirk goes for powers hits it hard the ball flying over Levell and into the back of the net 3-1. 78 minutes on the clock.

Lorton-Radburn is Doncaster's 1st change as they bring on Sam Tierney. Everton make their final change taking off a defender in Johnson and bringing on an attacker Jess King who takes up a position on the left. Emily Hollinshead drives forwards with the ball keeps hold of it as she runs across the face of the Doncaster box can't find any room to shoot.

Everton's Ellie Stewart &
Chantelle Boye-Hlorkah

GOAL! Everton come back at Doncaster again. The ball is on halfway no danger it seems as Stewart has the ball, she goes for goal lobbing it in from a long way out, Hobbs back pedalling can only throw a glove up in vain as the ball dips late creeping under the bar and in 3-2.

GOAL! Into the last minute of normal time and Everton Ladies complete the comeback as they score an equalising goal! Everton are pressing hard looking for the goal have it on the left Hinnigan manages to send the cross/shot into the box comes to Boye-Hlorkah on the six yard line who hooks her foot over the ball turns it into the back of the net 3-3.

Both sides look to press on in injury time look for a winning goal, Tierney has the ball played into her in the centre turns laying it into Simpkins to her right sends in a low cross along the six yard line Levell comes to scoop it up. Everton counter with the ball played out into King on the left racing towards the are looks to shoot put it across the keeper can only send it wide at the far post.

The final whistle blows and the points are shared the game ending 3-3 a great comeback at the death for Everton who keep their slender chances of promotion alive, have taken points off one of the sides above them play 3rd placed Yeovil Town Ladies away on Sunday with all still to play for, a game against Reading FC Women to come.

Another stumble on the road to promotion for Doncaster Rovers Belles conceding 2 late goals to peg the scores back. Operation Promotion is still well on course with 3 matches left the opportunity to seal it may come when they travel to London Bees on the 27th September.

Match Report - Bungay Town Ladies v Aylsham FC Ladies

It's a new season of County League football in the women's game and I couldn't be more excited for the action to start, saw some fantastic matches last campaign and am eager for more of the same, albeit without quite so much rain. No better place to start than going to watch the Champions of Norfolk begin the defence of their title as Aylsham FC Ladies begin their league campaign with an away trip to Maltings Meadow to take on Bungay Town Ladies.

Norfolk Women's Division One looks like it is going to be a highly competitive league this season and Aylsham FC Ladies will have plenty of challenges after their title with both last season's 2nd and 3rd placed teams Thorpe United Ladies and Wymondham Town Ladies strengthening their squads. Both the newly promoted sides Brandon Town Ladies and Lynn Ladies will prove tough opposition will fancy their chances alot of intriguing fixtures to look forwards too.

Starting with today's match Bungay Town Ladies v Aylsham FC Ladies a rearranged opening day fixture as both sides original opponents are in FA Women's Cup action today. I saw Aylsham FC Ladies in action just the once last season an away game against last seasons early league pace setters Mulbarton Belles won the match 2-1 to go top of the league and from then on in never looked back maintained top spot seeing off everyone else to clinch the league title. The squad is largely unchanged from last season a couple of additions as they welcome a couple of players back.

Several new faces in the Bungay Town Ladies squad, manager Graham Purling giving a handful their 1st competitive starts today. Have a new goalkeeper between the sticks, Rachel Moore who was at Harleston Ladies previously. Taylor Whiting who comes in from Long Stratton Ladies along with Eva Evans from Norwich City Ladies. Emma Harvey and Nicky Hazell were with the 7 aside league set up last season. A side that is always likely to cause an upset. Would they start with a victory at home to the defending champions.

Maltings Meadow the venue Bungay Town Ladies are an integral part of the football club. Boasts great playing facilities and modern clubhouse, several pitches including the newly laid main pitch. Today the ladies would play on the pitch behind the clubhouse had that new season look about it freshly mowed, freshly painted. A good size and in very good condition. Graham did point out one draw back to me the now well established hawthorn hedge dividing the pitch from the cricket field beyond has cost the club more than it's fair share of footballs. Great weather for the start of the season, bright and sunny... it'll never last.

Bungay Town Ladies starting XI - Rachel Moore, Kelly Collins (C), Emily Fusco, Lois Nethersell, Sian Carter, Inna Marx, Lauren Purling, Taylor Whiting, Eva Evans, Nicola Hazell & Emily Leach.
subs - Hannah Taylor, Emma Harvey & Rebecca Goffin.

Aylsham FC Ladies starting XI - Ania Vanston, Vikki Bird (C), Aneliese Smith, Alicia Lacey, Felicity Hunton, Debbie Kelly, Abbie Charlton, Emma Gillespie, Lisa Ferdani, Kiera Squires & Leanne Woodward.
subs - Michaela England, Sarah Thompson & Sophie Burr-Walpole.

   (roll on roll off substitutes)

It's Bungay to get the match under way wearing light blue shirts, black shorts and socks against Aylsham lined up wearing orange shirts with a blue and white band across the front, blue shorts and orange socks. The ball is closed down in midfield a fortunate rebound causing it to pop forwards presenting Bungay's Lauren Purling with an early chance to have a run down into space on the right of the pitch, driving forwards looks to put the ball into the box with both Nicky Hazell and Emily Leach beyond charging forwards to attack the ball is intercepted by Aylsham centre back Alicia Lacey who heads the ball away from danger.

Aylsham launch a counter attack the build up down the right the ball slipped through into the path of Leanne Woodward as she bursts into space beyond the Bungay defence, Moore is called into action to make an early save dropping low to stop the ball at Woodwards feet inside the box.

Is a fairly even start both sides want the ball up top as quickly as possible, Taylor Whiting gets hold of the ball sprays the pass out to Leach who is peeling out into the left channel in front of the area 20 yards out takes on the shot is blocked by Aylsham captain Vikki Bird, the rebound rolls back to Leach she has a 2nd go for goal doesn't get the contact she wanted the ball rolls harmlessly through to Sian Vanston in the Aylsham goal.

End to end as Aylsham attack Woodward is put through again, Moore is hesitant to come stays on her line turns out to be a good call as her captain Kelly Collins makes up the ground on Woodward to force her wide left of the goal, Woodward still manages to get a shot away from a tight angle, Moore back on her line is able to drop and make the save holding onto the ball.

Abbie Charlton drives past one Bungay challenge in the centre making a determined run to break through the home sides defence, Sian Carter comes across to put in the blocking tackle and set up a Bungay break the ball put long for Hazell to chase, takes on the shot as she reaches the edge of the area sends the ball over the cross bar.

Bungay Town Ladies, Sian Carter

Aylsham are pressing numbers forwards up against the Bungay defence have four breaking free into space as Emma Gillespie has the ball at her feet wide on their right, opts to take on the shot from the angle, like Hazell moments before puts the strike over the bar. Charlton is the next Aylsham player to break behind the Bungay defence central, Moore has to come this time does enough to put the attacker off as they come together just inside the box Charlton putting her strike wide of goal.

Michaela England comes on for Woodward, out on the right she is almost played in as Lacey clears the ball from her defence, is stopped by Lois Nethersell as the full back recovers the ground to put the tackle giving Aylsham their 1st corner kick of the match. Lacey is up from the back for the corner played in from the right rises to meet the ball with her head ten yards out puts the attempt over.

Nethersell has a good throw on her as Bungay move the ball up the right the full back sends it into the area, Aylsham struggle to get it away as Leach capitalises from a bit of pinball in front of the area, sends her low driven shot across the face of the goal and out of play.

27 minutes gone in what has been a fast paced and action packed game so far and Aylsham are awarded a penalty kick. Very unfortunate to go against Bungay's Collins. It's England who bursts into space as Aylsham attack driving towards the box Moore comes to meet her, England's touch to take the ball past the keeper is a little heavy takes her wide left of goal to the byline she tries to cut it back along the line keeps it in Collins is racing back to slide in to block the ball has her arm out behind her to steady herself the ball strikes it the referee points to the spot. It's Lisa Ferdani who steps up to take the kick looks to place it wide of the keeper, sends the ball the wrong side of the post.

Aylsham have a long throw specialist of their own in their captain as Vikki Bird launches the ball into the area from the right, Bungay get it out of the box comes back to Aneliese Smith 30 yards out she looks to send a flighted attempt over Moore in goal, the keeper is back on her line and well placed to make the claim.

Eva Evans on the ball for Bungay Town Ladies

GOAL! Purling and Whiting have switched sides moments before, as Eva Evans, who has made a few forceful runs through the middle for Bungay already looks to push on again is stopped as she crashes into Felicity Hunton the ball though skips forwards the referee allows play to go on Purling and Leach are both out on the left, it's Leach that gets to the ball 1st left side of the area hits the shot with plenty of power low and hard across the goal and it goes in at the far post to give Bungay the lead 1-0.

Emily Leach opens the scoring for Bungay Town Ladies

GOAL! One goal is soon followed by two as Bungay extend their lead, another throw by Nethersell on the left sets up the move the ball played into Inna Marx in the centre she sweeps the ball out to Whiting on the right corner of the area Whiting sends her cross into the box the target Leach six yards out she gets onto the ball and turns it home 2-0 with 5 minutes left in the 1st half.

Leach nearly has a quick fire 1st half hat-trick as in the next attack Aylsham fail to clear the ball the low clearance pings back into Leach inside the area hits the shot early, pulls the attempt wide across the goal.

GOAL! Instead of a 3 goal lead Aylsham hit back pinning the scores back to 2-1 as they pull a goal back, looks a poor call as the offside trap is sprung the flag stays down as Gillespie breaks into open ground in behind the Bungay defence, stays composed as Moore comes out to try and put her off, shifts the ball to her left half a yard to take it past the keeper and play it into the empty net beyond 2-1.

Half time Bungay Town Ladies 2-1 Aylsham FC Ladies

An action packed 1st half with plenty of incident, a penalty miss, 3 goals and twice as many chances created. The Bungay defence has been the busiest with Collins often making the last ditch tackle to win the ball with Aylsham constantly looking to break behind them. Up the other end though the home side have caused their fair share of problems, both Leach and Hazell looking to get hold of the ball in attack Marx and Evans with determined runs from the middle. Will the 2nd half live up to the 1st halves action.

Aylsham to kick off the 2nd 45, have Sophie Burr-Walpole on with Kiera Squires the player off. Early throw for Nethersell on the left high up the pitch puts it into Leach she drives to the by line holding it up before getting the cross in, a tight angle Vanston already has her near post covered scoops the bouncing ball up into her gloves.

Gillespie is strong on the ball retaining possession on the left as she battles to push forwards with it at her feet holding off the challenge plays it into Ferdani in a central position in front of the box, she attempts to thread the ball between two players with Charlton making a great run in front of her is squeezed out the block coming back out to Gillespie she attempts to fire the shot back across goal goes wide at the far post.

Bungay bring on Rebecca Gorrin for Whiting. Moore is off her line quickly to make a vital save at the feet of Charlton as she is played through inside the box. Ferdani is the next Aylsham attacker to be played in right of the goal, Bungay's Emily Fusco does well to get across her shield the ball back into her keepers gloves. Aylsham break up a Bungay attack with the cleared ball being flicked on by Charlton, to send Gillespie free to race after the ball Moore has come to the edge of the area trusts the ball will cross the line before Gillespie can reach her drops and sees it into her gloves.

The kick out from the back is good from Moore the ball played up to Hazell who controls the ball and hits the shot on the spin 20 yards out off target goes wide of goal. Marx brings the ball up the pitch has both Hazell and Leach making good runs in front of her puts the pass into Hazell right of goal, she manages to bring the ball under control pass it into Leach free on her left, Leach's 1st touch is heavy by the time she hits the shot she is virtually on top of Vanston who stands firm to make the blocking save.

GOAL! Bungay score a 3rd goal and it's Leach who gets it to complete her hat-trick. Play builds up down the left Hazell attacking forces Bird into conceding a throw on the left, Nethersell to take launches it into the area near post Leach attacks it has her 1st shot blocked/saved, loose it comes back to her inside the six yard box to stab home and extend the lead 3-1 18 minute gone. Woodwards comes back onto the pitch for Aylsham with Debbie Bird off.

GOAL! Aylsham have had one quick reply before in the 1st half do it again in the 2nd. Is a screamer of a strike from Lacey 35 yards out as she latches onto a loose ball following a clash between Evans and Ferdani as the Bungay player attempts to drive forwards. Lacey racing to meet the ball hits it hard and accurate into the top corner 3-2.

GOAL! No sooner have Aylsham pulled on goal back than they equalise, is a direct move as they break up a Bungay move the ball coming to England in the centre she immediately plays it on with Charlton making the run to get into the box left of goal takes the early shot sending the ball past Moore before she can set herself and into the back of the net 3-3.

Aylsham having pulled the scores level are on the attack looking for more, have a free kick wide right Charlton plays the ball into the area, Woodward meets it with her head it loops up straight into the arms of Moore. England springs the offside trap bombs down the right before squaring the ball into the area Woodward is there central but scuffs her shot rolls into the keeper.

Into the last 15 minutes Whiting is back on for Bungay, as Aylsham come at them again Ferdani sending the pass into Woodward in side the box, she shoots good save by Moore as she goes to ground pushes it wide of the goal, Woodward races after it goes for goal again smashing the rising ball against the upright, pops back straight into Moore gloves.

Aylsham FC Ladies, Lisa Ferdani

GOAL! The visitors take the lead for the 1st time in the match. Charlton with her 2nd of the match as Aylsham are awarded a free kick on the half way line is taken quickly played down the left channel where Charlton is the willing runner the ball is allowed to bounce comes through to her the angle is tight Charlton gets to the ball turns and shoots sending the ball across the goal and in as Aylsham take the lead 3-4.

Into the last 10 minutes Bungay have been rattled their play has gone a little ragged, Charlton is looking for her hat-trick robs the ball off a defender in front of the area then shoots places it straight at the goalkeeper.

Purling tries to make something happen on the left of attack as she brings the ball forwards for Bungay try to pull the scores level puts it into Hazell who rides a challenge before getting her shot away from the left of the box, Vanston can watch it wide of her far post. Leach with good strength on the ball 20 yards out produces a good turn to move the ball to her right takes on the shot drags it wide of the goal.

Aylsham see off a late Bungay surge prevent any more shooting opportunities as the final whistle blows they have the opening day win and 3 points on the board having come back from 3-1 down to win the match 3-4. A great game to watch as a neutral, 4-3's are always action packed great for the team that scores 4 agony for the team that gets 3. Good comeback from Aylsham were clinical for a 15 minute spell after conceding the 3rd goal.

Bungay were undone in that same spell had put alot of effort into trying to keep their lead the 3rd goal needed to be defended for longer was a great strike from Lacey to reduce the deficit so quickly however. Great start to the Norfolk Women's football season thoroughly enjoyed it thanks to both sides for helping me out with the teams today and best of luck for the rest of the season.

Match Report - Reading FC Women v Doncaster Rovers Belles

Just 5 games left to for both Reading FC Women and Doncaster Rovers Belles in the race for the FAWSL 2 title. Both have been slugging it out at the top of the league all season with neither able to break away from the other, tonight they meet at Farnborough FC as Reading FC Women look to do the double over Doncaster Rovers Belles in the league and retake the lead at the top of the table. A 5 point gap at the top is the incentive for Doncaster Rovers Belles as they look to increase their lead.

With 2 promotion spots up for grabs in the league to win a place in the top tier of women's football, both sides are well on course to achieve that with just a handful of games left well clear of 3rd placed Yeovil Town Ladies and 4th placed Everton Ladies, although the latter does have games in hand following earlier season postponements with 2 against the promotion chasing pair they may yet have a say on where the title goes.

Reading FC Women on 32 points after 13 matches played are the leagues top scorers with 47 goals so far have continued scoring plenty of goals following the departure of talisman Fran Kirby to Chelsea Ladies. Emma Follis having joined the club from Aston Villa Ladies at the start of the season is the current top scorer on 13 goals with a good spread of scorers throughout the side. Have lost just once in the league this season. This is the clubs last home league match of the season, after this it's 4 away trips and they will want to finish at home on a high by taking 3 points off Doncaster Rovers Belles for the 2nd time this season.

One loss in the league all season too for Doncaster Rovers Belles that defeat a 3-0 loss at home to Reading FC Women. Since then haven't dropped a single point in the league winning 6 in a row know that a 7th straight win will put them in a commanding position at the top of the table. Have a striker in Courtney Sweetman-Kirk that has been in irresistible form this season. Manager Glenn Harris has brought in two shrewd acquisitions to bolster the squad in the latter half of the campaign midfielders Jade Lorton-Radburn and Emily Simpkins both adding different demensions to the side.

Was a rare occasion when I don't get held up anywhere on the way to a WSL match and having allowed for the usual trouble didn't get any arriving at Farnborough FC a whole 2 hours before the game (I wouldn't be so lucky on the way home.) Was hungry, no surprise there, Reading must have known cause they gave me a bib to wear... cheeseburger and chips later all set for the match. Reading have worked hard to make the Farnborough Ground feel like their home, the mens side playing earlier in the day where hoping a few would stick around to see the women play on a pleasant September evening.

Reading FC Women starting XI - Grace Moloney, Rebecca Jane, Harriet Scott, Kirsty McGee (C), Kylie Davies, Laura-May Walkley, Bianca Bragg, Rachel Rowe, Emma Follis, Nikki Watts & Helen Ward.
subs - Georgie Giddings, Molly Bartrip, Charlie Estcourt, Eloise Wilson, Melissa Fletcher, Nia Jones & Chloe Sampson.

Doncaster Rovers Belles starting XI - Nicola Hobbs, Hope Knight, Sophie Barker, Rhiannon Roberts, Leandra Little (C), Kasia Lipka, Jade Lorton-Radburn, Emily Simpkins, Bethany England, Sue Smith & Courtney Sweetman-Kirk.
subs - Lyndsey Cunningham, Samantha Tierney, Molly Johnson, Emily Roberts, Sophie Stamp, Nicole Dale & Lauren Cresswell.

Reading to kick off the match wearing blue and white hooped shirts, blue shorts and white socks, were with out a few 1st team regulars with Lois Roche suspended and Bonnie Horwood and Lauren Bruton unavailable. Doncaster lined up opposite wearing yellow shirts and socks with blue shorts had made a couple a changes with Sophie Barker and Hope Knight playing at in the full back positions right and left.

Reading begin on the offensive looking to spray the ball out into the right channel for Emma Follis to chase after, Nicola Hobbs in the Doncaster goal is out quickly to come and kick the ball into the stands. It isn't long before Doncaster mount an attack winning a throw deep inside the Reading half, Sue Smith takes putting the ball into Bethany England, controls with her chest then slides the pass back to Smith as she makes the run down the line, cuts the cross back on the angle to the corner of the box with England making the run, on the drive takes the ball in her stride right of goal gets her strike away sends the shot over the bar.

Doncaster's Jade Lorton-Radburn wins the ball back in the middle of the park Courtney Sweetman-Kirk is making a move peeling off into space on the left side of the field in front of her picks her out with the pass allows her to get her head down take the ball on drive towards the box, is stopped by Reading captain Kirsty McGee who comes across, slides in to make the tackle clear the threat.

A cagey opening both sides getting the ball up to their attackers quickly, both looking eager to score an early goal. Reading's Rachel Rowe takes the ball out to the left of the pitch pushing up the wing sends the cross into the area where Bianca Bragg has made the run to join the attack chests the ball down shoots, the ball is blocked by Lorton-Radburn.

England is the player operating furthest forwards by Doncaster early on in a slight positional change by Glen Harris and she is causing the Reading back line a few problems with her movement across the final 3rd, has a chance to strike for goal as Smith is sent away down the left plays the ball into England's path 20 yards out, hits the shot 1st time, again McGee is there to block the shot.

Reading have everyone back to win the ball back, it's Helen Ward who wins the ball off England inside their final 3rd sets up a counter attack passing the ball into Bragg in the centre of midfield, she looks to send Nikki Watts away with a high ball over the top of the Doncaster defence, Hobbs is 1st to it gathering before Watts can latch onto the ball. Watts has an opportunity to take a shot on from 25 yards out can only pick out Hobbs in the Doncaster goal.

England is fouled 22 yards out from goal wide on the right side for Doncaster, both Smith and Kasia Lipka are over the ball, it's Lipka to take a short ball into Sophie Barker in a central position on the edge of the Reading box, her pass is cut out and cleared but only as far as Emily Simpkins 25 yards out she takes on the shot a low drive put wide of the post.

Bragg is playing some great balls out of the middle of the park into Reading's attackers, passing into Watts who lays it out to the left for Ward to get hold of, the cross is sent in deep towards the far post, Reading keep it in play the ball dropping into the area two shots are blocked in quick succession from both Bragg and I think Follis.

GOAL! Midway through the 1st half and Doncaster are the side to make the break through, both sides are giving away free kicks in the centre of the pitch, this one goes the visitors way. Smith is over it in front of the centre circle inside the Reading half. Looks to flight the ball into the box towards right of goal, has Doncaster captain Leandra Little making the run the timing is perfect on the run Little meets the ball with her head sending it back across Grace Moloney in the Reading goal and into the back of the net 1-0.

Leandra Little celebrates with Bethany England & Courtney Sweetman-Kirk after scoring Donaster's opening goal

Reading have appeals for a penalty turned down as they break the ball played forwards into the area by Watts for Follis to chase right side of the box, Hobbs is a across to dive in front of her to claim the ball, Follis goes over her but nothing doing.

England continues to be a threat for Doncaster moving right and left looking to pick up the ball and run at the Reading defence is put in down the left looks to take Davies on as she comes across to challenge her inside the box, the Welsh international with an assured tackle to win the ball. Another Doncaster attack Smith on the ball 30 yards out central pops the ball over the Reading defence Simpkins has made her way up to get into the area meets the ball the volley hitting in across the goal, is narrowly over. Lipka is encouraged to take on the shot 35 yards out as Reading back off her the attempt is a yard over the cross bar.

Reading's Helen Ward pulls it back to 1-1

GOAL! It's the move Reading have looked to produce most often that brings them the equalising goal. Bragg on the ball in the middle is looking for the diagonal ball wide out to the wing, right this time has Watts making the move to get onto the ball takes it into the corner before getting her cross away sending a great ball into the box, Hobbs has been drawn to her near post, the ball flies over her comes to Ward in the centre of goal who knocks the ball down with head into the net to make it 1-1 with 35 minutes played.
A minute later Bethany England restores the lead

GOAL! Barely over a minute later and Doncaster restore their lead. The visitors win a free kick wide on the half way line. It's Rhiannon Roberts to take plays a speculative ball in towards the edge of the area Smith her back to goal gets her head to it knocks it down to her right picking out Simpkins, she smashes her 1st time strike into a defender the ball flies out of the area, Doncaster retrieve it and before Reading can clear their box, the cross is sent back in from the right, England is clear of everyone as she nods the ball past Moloney and into the net 1-2.

The Reading fans and players alike are incensed their fury is towards the linesman on this side claim England was offside all the protests get no where the goal stands Reading have to restart the match. Rowe gets hold of the ball pushes into the Doncaster half Ward is making the run on the left in front of her Rowe plays the pass, Roberts with a vital interception or Ward would have been free to run on goal.

A late chance for Doncaster to extend their lead as full back Harriet Scott's pass back to her defence is heavy, Sweetman-Kirk is on their shoulders and alert springs into action getting hold of the ball she looks to put the ball over Moloney's head not high enough though as the keeper throws her hands up to pluck the ball down.

Half time Reading FC Women 1-2 Doncaster Rovers Belles

An energetic and fast paced 1st half that has seen Doncaster produce plenty of goal scoring opportunities their pace and movement more fluid up top than Reading's just the one goal in it though, more of the same I hope as Doncaster kick off the 2nd half.

Positive start from the visitors with Smith on the driving looking to play the through ball into England's run, the Reading defence read it and clear the ball. Smith tries her luck down the right wing, Scott comes across to put in a forceful tackle the deny the cross. At the other end Bragg plays a great ball forwards looking for Follis central mis-controls with her 1st touch allowing Little the chance to get her foot on the ball and clear it.

Simpkins fouls Laura-May Walkley wide on the right 30 yards out. Rebecca Jane to play the ball into the area plenty of players coming looking to meet it, Hobbs isn't distracted keeps her eye on the ball stands firm to put a fist on the ball knock it down to the edge of the area where Knight sweeps it clear.

Reading have started much more offensively 2nd half are the ones taking the ball to Doncaster, Watts gets her head down on the right pushing on before cutting back inside, great pass to play in Bragg she fires the ball into towards goal, Hobbs throws herself to her right however the shot is safely wide.

Walkley wins the ball in the middle and is allowed to run on before taking on the strike 25 yards out the effort is blocked by Roberts the ball spinning into the path of Bragg she tries to place her shot a curling effort looking for the top corner can only pick out Hobbs well placed in her goal.

Both sides make their 1st change with Doncaster bringing of Smith, send on Emily Roberts. Reading bring off Walkley with Molly Bartrip the player coming on. Great footwork from Follis as she attacks right of the box shifts the ball to beat Little take it on into the box looks to lift her shot over Hobb's like Sweetman-Kirk wanted to do with Moloney in the 1st half, same result the keeper equal to it plucks the ball out of the air.

Refereeing decisions continue to upset the home fans but they give ironic cheers as they are awarded a free kick right of the area 25 yards out. Reading make a change before the ball is delivered with Ward coming off for Nia Jones to enter the pitch. Watts is the player to put the ball into the area McGee gets her head to the ball it loops up Hobbs is left unchallenged as she claims the ball.

Total contrast to the 1st half where Doncaster were going forwards at will, are struggling to get anything going in the final third, 2nd half. Sweetman-Kirk does well holding the ball up is fouled with her back to goal outside the box the advantage is played though as Lorton-Radburn latches onto the ball sends in an early cross into the box England is there to meet it looks to turn the ball towards goal with her head places it well wide of goal.

Doncaster's Courtney Sweetman-Kirk with Reading's Rachel Rowe

More good hold up play from Sweetman-Kirk hard to shake off the ball shifts it into the path of England making the run to support her outside the box she takes on the strike blasts the ball wide of goal.

A strong challenge by Scott as she goes in on Simpkins to leave the Doncaster midfielder on the ground in a lot of pain earns her a yellow card, was a long way off but looked a reckless tackle could have been more.  Reading make their 3rd change with Rowe coming off for Melissa Fletcher. Simpkins needs lengthy treatment but is able to continue.

Sweetman-Kirk with a burst of place down the right looks to put a lofted cross into the area the target England in the middle, Moloney grabs the ball before the Doncaster attack can get anything on it. Hobbs with another firm punch clearing her area as Reading put a free kick into the box from 40 yards out into injury time.

GOAL! Reading have been threatening all 2nd half and as the game moves into stoppage time. It's great work from substitute Fletcher on the right driving down to the by line looks to take on Knight take the ball into the box plays the ball against the full back but keeps it from going out for a corner gets past her before playing the ball into the box, Bragg is the player who slides onto it 10 yards out right of the goal getting it through a crowded area across Hobbs low into the far side of the net 2-2. Bragg is hurt in the move caught by a last ditch Doncaster challenge but is mobbed by her team mates before the pain has a chance to set in.

Bianca Bragg scorer of Reading FC Women's late equaliser

Simpkins comes off for Doncaster whilst Bragg receives treatment with Sophie Stamp coming on. Plenty of stoppage time to be played well over 10 minutes by the final whistle chance for both sides to score another goal Reading are looking for a 3rd, Watts with the turn and shot from 25 yards out the crowd are on their feet the ball goes the wrong side of the top corner.

Doncaster have 3 late corners in quick succession as Reading head it behind twice before Moloney comes to confidently claim the 3rd at her hear post. Sets up a counter attack Follis is sent through to racing to get to the ball can't reach it before Hobbs kicks it back up the pitch, Folllis is down inside the Doncaster box and in need of treatment carried off the pitch can't continue as Reading finish with 10.

The final whistle blows and in the end the points are shared with Reading scoring late to make it 2-2. No more than their play deserved 2nd half, was most certainly a game of two halves with Doncaster on top for large periods in the 1st half, unable to match that intensity in the 2nd 45 as Reading came at them strongly, a entertaining match good football from both side, don't like criticising the officials but it seems to be a recurring theme in FAWSL matches.

The gap remains 2 points both sides have 4 games left Doncaster know if they take maximum points they will be crowned champions, Reading will chase them all the way know the same from them and both will be playing football in FAWSL 1 next season. Will be seeing Doncaster in action again in midweek as they take on Everton Ladies at the Keepmoat Stadium on Thursday night.

Match Report - Cambridge United WFC v MK Dons Ladies

The football action returns to the FAWPL South East Division One this week with a Wednesday night trip to Ely City FC to watch Cambridge United WFC at home as they host early league leaders Milton Keynes Dons Ladies.

Two wins out two for Milton Keynes Dons Ladies, a great start to their season. Are amongst the favourites to challenge for the title and promotion to the FAWPL Southern Division this season. Ran eventual winners C&K Basildon Ladies all the way last season finishing in 2nd spot and will be hoping they can go one better this time around. Manager Tony O'Niell has added a few new faces to the squad this season two of which Sam Gillings and Vicky Holland were starting tonight.

A contrasting start to the league season for Cambridge United WFC newly merged with League Two side Cambridge United FC. Wanted to hit the ground running in their new colours was a below par performance as they were beaten 3-1 away to a rejuvenated Norwich City Ladies on the opening day. Followed that up with a 2-1 defeat at home to Ipswich Town Ladies the following Sunday. Got back to winning ways this Sunday in the Determining Round of the FAWPL Cup beating Cheltenham Town Ladies 3-0. Tonight's match is the 3rd of 6 successive home games and they will be hoping to get some points on the board are 1 of 5 sides on the league on 0 points going into tonight's match.

Dark clouds all around as I travelled to Ely City FC for the 1st time this season, by the time I arrived at was pouring down and looked set in for some time thankfully the ground has a seated and more importantly covered seating overlooking the pitch and that is where I retreated to watch the game.

Cambridge United WFC starting XI - Liz Pamplin, Hannah Goodchild, Lucy Du Plooy, Nicola Geoghan, Kayleigh Anne Burt, Laura Baker, Laura Bright (C), Nuala Wayne, Emma Jenkins, Laura Mills & Becky Taylor.
subs - Robyn Phillips, Faith Hewitt, Becca Fay, Emily Reed & Sophie Thompson.

Milton Keynes Dons Ladies starting XI - Caroline Collie, Louise Naylor, Sam Gillings, Claire Hollingsworth, Leanna Doyle, Andie Dickens, Heather McDonnell, Hannah Barrett (C), Vicky Holland, Charley Wright & Leah Cudone.
subs - Lauren Goodier, Zoe Lander, Elizabeth Stanton, Rosie Anderson & Chelsea Coles.

It's Cambridge in their new colours, amber and black vertical striped shirts with black shorts and amber socks to kick off the match with Milton Keynes lined up opposite all in red. Is a tentative start with both sides playing the pass long, Cambridge's attempt running through to Caroline Collie in the Milton Keynes goal, same result at the other end a Milton Keynes captain Hannah Barrett looks to put the ball in over the Cambridge defence with Andie Dickens making the run to get beyond coming in off the left, Liz Pamplin in goal for Cambridge tonight able to get to the ball 1st make the early claim.

With the rain falling steadily it's worth a go early on take advantage of the conditions however the pitch is holding up well players are able to keep their feet and soon enough both sides are settling into a shorter passing game. Milton Keynes have possession of the ball down the left of the pitch good build up play, Dickens cuts back inside before sending the cross along the face of the Cambridge area comes to Charley Wright 30 yards out right of the box she goes for goal the shot off target as the ball skips across the box and out of play.

In attack for Cambridge the ball at her feet Laura Mills looks to drive forwards on the right, can't get the better of Milton Keynes central defender Leanna Doyle who puts the ball out for a throw. Good control from Laura Baker releasing the pass to send Mills down the right again pushing on she sends the early cross into the box, arriving from deep Cambridge captain Laura Bright can't make connection with the ball runs through to Nuala Wayne behind her 20 yards out she has her shot blocked the ball spinning behind for a corner kick. The corner is headed behind by Milton Keynes for a 2nd corner this one is taken short from the left by Cambridge, Mills eventually working it inside for a shot 25 yards out pulls the effort wide.

GOAL! 11 minutes into the match both sides pushing forwards, looking to counter rapidly as their defences win the ball back, a Milton Keynes move is stopped by Cambridge the ball fired out from the back into the midfield where Becky Taylor is well placed to receive it a good flick on sets Emma Jenkins free on the right, showing good pace she bursts forwards takes the ball into the box wrapping her foot around the ball smashes her shot past Collie and into the back of the net 1-0.

Milton Keynes look to respond the build up through the centre with Barrett doing well holding the ball up her back to goal bringing her team further up the pitch lays it back to Wright who tries again from distance outside the box the strike is easily held by Pamplin. Leah Cudone puts in the challenge to win the ball in the final 3rd for Milton Keynes looks to send Barrett through on goal, she can't get there before Pamplin. The Cambridge keeper is busy Milton Keynes having the ball in and around the box are looking to get their strikes away from the right corner another effort comes in from Wright the shot low and bouncing has Pamplin scrambling across her goal makes the save pushing the ball wide for a corner kick. Dickens receives the corner kick from the left on the edge of the area fires her shot over the cross bar.

The rain has started to ease Milton Keynes attack down the right Heather McDonnell looking to get in behind the Cambridge back line the home side are forced to concede the corner. An in swinging ball is met by the head of Barrett a looping header she puts it onto the roof of the net. A concerted spell of pressure from the visitors.

Cambridge have ridden it out, up top Jenkins is lively as she intercepts a pass out from the back looks to attack skipping over a lunging challenge she is in beyond the Milton Keynes defence again driving towards the area crosses early putting the ball along the face of the area with Mills looking to get up with her meeting the ball looks to turn it goal wards, gets too much swerve on the ball causing it to swing away goes narrowly wide.

Cambridge central defender Nicola Geoghan intercepts a Milton Keynes ball, then sends a great pass through the middle into Bright who looks to push forwards make for the opposition box, is squeezed off the ball, it falls to Mills behind her 20 yards out goes for goal fires the strike over the bar.

GOAL! Most of Milton Keynes efforts on goal have come from outside the area, with Cudone and Barrett both pulling shots wide past the posts before Cambridge attempt to stop another effort coming in and commit the foul. A good position on the left 22 yards outside the area it's Barrett over the ball, is a great strike as she sweeps the ball over the Cambridge wall and into the back of the net Pamplin's dive in vain 1-1 35 minutes played.

Milton Keynes gift Cambridge a chance to attack their goal as centre back Claire Hollingsworth looks to marshal the ball back to her keeper who starts to come then hesitates, Taylor is after the ball steals it and looks to race into the area, Hollingsworth recovers quickly pushes Taylor wide of goal preventing her getting a shot at the exposed goal, Taylor keep possession works herself into a yard of space to get her shot away left of the goal inside the six yard box Milton Keynes have the numbers back by then to clear.

Jenkins has another great opportunity to restore Cambridge's lead as the 1st half draws to a close, is very close to being offside as Bright picks up the ball and sweeps it out into space on the right for her to chase down the flag stays down Jenkins runs into the box is in the same position as when she scored her goal this time however as she looks to put it in Collie gets her leg in the way of the ball, a great save.

Half time Cambridge United WFC 1-1 Milton Keynes Dons Ladies

An entertaining game so far with 2 well taken goals scored with plenty of chances created to from both sides. Even better the weather has eased up which is good news for all involved a god sized crowded making the trip to watch the game. Will they see more goals as Milton Keynes get the 2nd half under-way.

Have made a change at half time with their captain Barrett off the pitch, with Lauren Goodier on in her place. Win an early free kick on the half way line the ball floated forwards into the area is headed away, the ball falling to Cudone 25 yards out looks to shot smashes it high and wide. Playing a little deeper in midfield in the 2nd half Vicky Holland does well to retain possession of the ball inside the Cambridge half before looking to sweep it into the area, Pamplin comes to intercept before it can reach the players attacking the far post.

Jenkins taking the ball into the right channel holds it up well as support eventually comes from Mills rolling the ball back to her, looks to sweep the ball into  Taylor on the edge of the box, Milton Keynes intercept, Wayne comes in to win it back puts the ball into Taylor's feet, she looks to send the ball over the Milton Keynes defence has both Mills and Jenkins through inside the box ready to attack it, Collie comes between them both to make the save sliding in with her legs. Milton Keynes break forwards have Dickens on the ball down the left puts it into the area Goodier lays it back to Wright outside the area takes on the shot is over the bar.

Jenkins is clipped by Milton Keynes full back Sam Gillings giving the home side a free kick on the right outside the area. It's Bright looking to send the ball into the box for her team mates to attack, Geoghan gets her head to the ball 10 yards out the ball is blocked comes all the way back to Jenkins outside the area smashes the ball back in too many bodies to get through is diverted behind for a corner kick. Last action for Jenkins as she is Cambridge's 1st change as manager Steve Edwards sends on Faith Hewitt.

Cambridge are enjoying more of the ball 2nd half are having spells of possession inside the Milton Keynes half, on the ball Bright is given the space to bring it forwards taking a stride opts to have a strike on goal a low effort plenty of pace, Collie is down sharply to save the ball on her goal line. Milton Keynes aren't able to hold the ball up top as well in the 2nd half as they did the 1st with Barrett off the pitch, make a 2nd change bringing on Elizabeth Stanton for Holland.

Baker is tripped by Doyle as she looks to get further forwards get beyond the Milton Keynes defence, earns the defender a yellow card. From the resulting free kick the ball is put wide of goal by Wayne.

A good turn of pace from Cudone on the left of attack for Milton Keynes sees her get beyond the Cambridge defence, looks to get into the box attack the goal, stabs the ball in Pamplin is across to cover her near post gets down to make the save. Is an end to end game with both defences giving very little away. Cambridge make their 2nd change bringing on Sophie Thompson to replace Taylor in attack.

Lucy Du Plooy hasn't gotten forwards from left back much during the match, now she races up over the half way line the ball is played into her path covers alot of ground before sweeping the ball across the Milton Keynes six yard line Thompson can't bring it down to turn and get her shot away, runs through instead to Hewitt beyond her a tight angle she looks to shoot the attempt is blocked, before being cleared.

Milton Keynes launch a counter attack the ball played out long from the back is a good one picking out Dickens on the left she fires in an early cross into the area a yard inside running through to Wayne she looks to shield it from the on rushing Goodier, the attack manages to steal in get her toe on the ball before hitting her shot, Pamplin does well getting across to make the save.

Another free kick given away on the right by Milton Keynes, 25 yards out Du Plooy to curl this one into the area, is cleared back to the edge of the area, Hewitt is 1st to it has her initial effort blocked before having a 2nd bite putting this one over the bar.

Dickens has covered alot of ground down the left for Milton Keynes all night, still has pace in her legs as she drives to the by line squares the ball back into the box, Cudone has gotten there to the near post to attack with her head can't place it either side of Pamplin who catches the ball. Final change for Cambridge with Wayne coming off, Becca Fay comes on goes into the left back slot with Du Plooy pushing on.

Milton Keynes have looked to test Pamplin with shots from distance all match and none more so than the next strike sent in by Stanton as she is the 1st to get hold of the free ball halfway inside the Cambridge half looks to open her body before getting the shot away is coming in at a great height looking to sail in over Pamplin under the bar, the keeper gets an arm up tips the ball onto the bar and over for a corner kick.

Into the closing minutes the game is stretched both sides attacking both fancying they can score what would surely be the winning goal. Another fantastic cross-field pass from Milton Keynes sets up Dickens for a strike on goal, one touch to knock it forwards before hitting it, again can only pick out the keeper.

The final whistle blows the points are shared, in what was a very entertaining match and a great advert for football in the league. Cambridge get their 1st league point of the campaign. Milton Keynes drop their 1st points but remain unbeaten slip to 3rd in the league with both Crystal Palace running out 5-0 winners over Gillingham FC Ladies ad Luton Town Ladies winning 3-0 against Bedford Ladies maintaining 100% records at the start of the season still a long way to go.

Two other matches in the league tonight Denham United Ladies winning 2-1 against Enfield Town Ladies and Lowestoft Town Ladies 3-2 against Norwich both picking up their 1st points of the season.

Next up for Cambridge a home match on Sunday 6th Sept against Luton Town Ladies. Milton Keynes are away to Crystal Palace Ladies.

My thanks to both clubs managers for helping me out with the teams tonight.
